Last year I was delighted to be elected as your Member of Parliament for Bolton West.

As a former NHS worker myself, one of my pledges to you was to build a National Health Service fit for the future. That’s why I’m pleased that this new government is delivering on its election promise to deliver more GP appointments and bring waiting lists down across Bolton.

Since the election, the government has invested a record £26 billion into the NHS. Having had loved ones suffer from cancer, I’m especially pleased that across Greater Manchester there’s been an extra 4,430 diagnoses made within 28 days since Labour came to power. After all, we know that the earlier cancer is detected the better the outcomes can be for the patient.

And I’m also glad to share that – following discussions with the Department of Health - two GP surgeries in Westhoughton, Stable Fold and Unsworth, will receive much needed funds to update their buildings and modernise their services.
