Tyldesley Carnival made its long-awaited return last weekend after 33 years, with over 3,000 residents turning out to celebrate the occasion. The event featured a vibrant parade through the town centre, live music, stalls, and family-friendly entertainment. This special celebration was uniquely hosted at Tyldesley Rugby Union Club, adding to the strong sense of community throughout the day.

The carnival has always held a special place in Tyldesley’s social calendar, running from the early 1960s through to the 1990s. Smiling faces would line the streets as locals gathered, knowing Tyldesley was the place to be. Colourful parades rolled past as the sound of marching bands echoed through the town, creating an atmosphere like no other. Shopkeepers would even close early just to catch the parade, a rare sight today. One especially memorable tradition was the pram race, often made up of local lads from the rugby club, glammed up in makeup and frocks, all in good spirits as they raced to win and entertain the crowd.
