Tributes have been paid following the tragic discovery of a 19-year-old man from Horwich who had been reported missing over the weekend.

Daniel Holden was last seen in the Rivington Reservoir area at around 9pm on Friday, August 29. Greater Manchester Police issued an appeal for information after he was reported missing.

On Sunday, August 31, an underwater search was carried out at Lower Rivington Reservoir where Daniel’s body was found. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “Following reports of a concern for welfare for a man believed to be in the Rivington area, officers were in the area of Lower Rivington Reservoir since the afternoon of Saturday, August 30. Following an underwater search on Sunday, August 31, very sadly the body of a 19-year-old man was found in the reservoir.”

News of Daniel’s death has prompted an outpouring of tributes on social media. Friends and residents described him as “a nice genuine lad” and someone whose “smile lit up every room.”

One tribute read: “Rest in peace Danny, he was a regular at a pub I worked at and was always a lovely lad. Thoughts are with his family.” Another said: “Absolutely heartbroken. Rest in peace Danny, you will be missed by everyone.”

Messages of condolence continue to be shared with his family and friends as the community comes to terms with the loss.
