A 93rd minute penalty from Connor Hughes rescued a 2-2 draw for Daisy Hill against Maine Road at the Ginge Power Stadium on Saturday.
Hughes’ late equaliser earned Daisy a much-deserved point from the North West Counties League First Division North encounter, after the Cutters had conceded two goals from ex-Daisy striker Jack Coop with a Liam Sheppard strike sandwiched between.
With only two minutes gone, Maine Road took the lead after Jack Coop scored a 1 in 100 goal from 40 yards.
He pounced on a loose ball on the edge of the centre circle, allowed the ball to bounce once and hit a thunderous volley that looped over Jude Smith who could only claw at the ball in despair.
Daisy nearly managed an instant reply, when Dec Baldwin’s inswinging corner was flicked goalwards by Jake O’Brien, forcing the Maine Road ‘keeper Brindley-Smith to tip the shot just past the post.
