This policy outlines how we collect, store, and use personal data in a way that is lawful, secure, and transparent.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all personal data held or processed by the Howfen Journal in any form — digital, written, or audio — and to anyone acting on behalf of the Journal.
3. Principles
We follow the core principles of data protection:
- Lawfulness, fairness, and transparency
- Purpose limitation – only use data for a clear reason
- Data minimisation – collect only what is necessary
- Accuracy – keep data up to date and correct

4. What data we collect
We may collect:

We do not collect or store sensitive personal data unless it is essential and with explicit consent.
5. How we use data
We only use personal data to:
- Communicate with contributors and volunteers
- Manage editorial work and submissions
- Promote published work (e.g. tagging authors on social media, if agreed)
- Send updates to newsletter subscribers, including those on paid tiers (with the option to unsubscribe)
We never sell or share personal data with third parties for commercial purposes.
6. Storage and access
- Data is stored securely in password-protected systems
- Access is limited to those who need it for operations
