Daisy denied sixth consecutive win by late Steeton penalty in a 1-1 draw in the North West Counties First Division North fixture.
After a first half with minimal quality in the final third by either side, Daisy were fired into an early second half lead by Liam Sheppard.
The Cutters were denied the victory by an 87th minute Aidan Kirby penalty which left manager Nicky Hunt frustrated with the result.
“It’s very disappointing coming away with just a point”, said Hunt
“We've looked in control for large parts of the game and when Shep gets his goal, it was all guns blazing and looked like we’d get all three points.
“We just came a cropper with an official today who was well below standard, in my opinion. And I'm sure if you ask their gaffer and any of their team and our team as well, they’d say exactly the same.
“They're here to officiate and they get it wrong sometimes, which I get, but to get that many decisions wrong today, especially with the penalty, it’s very, very frustrating.
“But fair play to Steeton in the last 10 minutes, they just pumped balls into areas and it was really difficult to defend at times. They've got big lads up there and they're very direct and they know what they're good at, and we just struggled to cope at times.
“We weren't that dominant in the final third, but I thought in midfield Kris Holt was excellent. He dominated from start to finish and he's just a class act, and that's why we need him in our team because he drives people on.
“The lads are gutted, but we're on an incredible run at the minute, and we just didn't get over the line today for whatever reason, but they can't be too harsh on themselves.
“Any point's a good point, especially away from home, but just to come away with one point and not three is very frustrating.”
Daisy Hill started the game on the front foot looking for the opener and nearly had their noses in front when Kris Holt’s deflected effort from outside the box narrowly rolled past the post Brad Emmerson’s goal 17 minutes in.
On the 25th minute Daisy should have been put in front when Ntumba Massanka was played in behind, but Emmerson spread himself well to divert Massanka’s shot wide.
The sides entered half time all square with the Cutters looking the more likely side to find a breakthrough.
That breakthrough came only 7 minutes into the second half as Kris Holt played Liam Sheppard in behind and he rode a challenge well and composed himself to slot underneath Emmerson to put the Cutters into a well-deserved lead.
Holt and Sheppard combined only 8 minutes later to nearly score an identical goal as Sheppard raced onto Holt’s pass, but this time Emmerson came out and tipped his shot wide of the post.
The Cutters started to sit back and invite the Chevvies onto them and it nearly caused trouble as from a Steeton corner the ball dropped to Arley Barnes, but his goal bound effort was blocked.
With Steeton on top Daisy attempted to hit them on the counter and Sheppard nearly did it all on his own.
With 78 minutes on the clock, he won the long ball up to him and then collected his own flick on and began to bare down on goal. His shot from inside the box looked destined to beat Emmerson in net, but Owen Williamson had tracked back and managed to make a goal saving block and keep Steeton in the match.
With the game petering out, Steeton were handed a lifeline as a Daisy defender was adjudged to have blocked a shot with an outstretched arm and a penalty was given.
Aidan Kirby stepped up and sent Jude Smith the wrong way as he slotted the ball into the bottom left corner rescuing a point for the Chevvies.
Daisy will be back in action on the 15th November as they will host the winner of Nelson vs MSB Woolton in the 2ndRound of the Edward Case Cup at the Ginge Power Stadium (3:00PM).
